Research Topics

Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (Pol-SAR)

For bio- and geophysical parameter estimation. The focus is set on the development of post-processing algorithms and inversion methodology for polarimetric SAR data. The validation of the algorithms in the frame of experimental campaigns is a key element of the activities. Actually, the moisture content estimation of soils covered by agricultural vegetation using polarimetric SAR at longer wavelengths is investigated.

Polarimetric SAR Interferometry (Pol-InSAR)

Development and validation of quantitative parameter inversion methodology from multi-parameter (i.e. multi-frequency, -baseline, -temporal) Pol-InSAR data. The parameter space of innovative Pol-InSAR acquisition scenarios is explored with respect to new or improved parameter inversion schemes. The inversion performance is validated in the frame of dedicated validation campaigns. Recent research activities are focused on agriculture (soil / vegetation moisture estimation), forest (height / biomass), and ice volumes (density profiles, penetration depth) parameters and products.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Acquisition Scenario Optimisation

The specification of the observation space required for the developed inversion methodology is projected onto future air- & space-borne acquisition scenario requirements. In reverse, the observation space of designed space-borne SAR missions is investigated and dedicated inversion methodologies are developed.
