In preceding projects, methods were developed to assess the dominant runoff process on plots and to upscale this information to the catchment scale resulting in a map of dominant runoff processes. This procedure is based on different kinds of maps and requires field work as well as expert knowledge. The aim of this project is to automate the derivation of such maps, using digital topographical, soil and geological data in a decision scheme already developed. As the data quality in different catchments varies greatly, it will also be assessed how the data quality influences the resulting maps. The maps produced in this project will be used by the partners to evaluate the potential of land use change to decrease flood disasters. However, they can also be used to improve the prediction of floods in ungaged catchments (PUB initiative of IAHS).
