Effects of dilute polymer solutions on the small scale structure of turbulent flows

In two consecutive experiments a mildly turbulent flow is produced and measured by particle tracking once without and once with polymers. The statistical functions describing the structure of turbulence should show a difference in the two cases. It is suggested that the difference allows some statement on the nature of turbulence. The setup is chosen in a way to have net zero flow. The generation of turbulence is achieved by mechanical means using rotating disks in opposite walls of the basin with different surface roughness.
