Artificial groundwater recharge in Uzbekistan

The Amu Darya river carries good water only in summer when the upstream Tuayamuyun reservoir releases its storage for power production. In the remaining 9 months of the year either no or only saline water is available. The idea of artificial groundwater recharge with summer water is explored by means of a 3D model. 3 semester projects for students were devoted to this subject. The students were given the opportunity to go to the field site in Chalysh. They found out that the design is faulty. New designs were proposed and tested with the model.
