Lagrangian measurements of Vorticity and Material Elements

A 3D particle tracking velocimetry method is further developed by increasing the frequency of imaging (from 30 to 60 Hz) and improving the analysis of the flow paths. The thesis arrives at a resolution on the order of the Kolmogorov length scale. The alignment and misalignment of the principal directions of the stress tensor and vorticity and material lines is shown and discussed in detail.
